Taiwan Expressway Traffic Monitoring System
Highway / expressway network system have always been one of Taiwan's strategically most important and most popular mass-transport systems. To increase their efficient operation, system integrators should implement dynamic network infrastructures enabling the personnel to get the real-time information about the state of the roads and important news announcements, captured video and traffic control signals aiming to improve traffic safety and fast react to emergency response situations.
Other than the real-time data transfer, network device integrators should as well consider the unfavorable climate conditions under which they must operate, as well as the long distances.
Korenix Ethernet solutions have been integrated in an expressway system automation project in Taiwan to build a reliable Intelligent Traffic Control System under harsh environments.
Alongside the roadways JetNet 5010G Ethernet switches have been installed, where they can collect traffic data, video streams, and violating vehicle’s images from various measurement equipment, traffic control systems as well as cameras using Copper ports. To collect the data from cameras located far from roadsides, JetCon 2302-s media converters are used, which collect data from the videos through copper and convert to 100FX fiber to uplink data up to 30KM to the JetNet 5010G switches. Instead of using 2 separate converters, the company has chosen to use JetCon 2302-s for its 2 copper and 2 fiber port capabilities, decreasing installation cost and space.
To transfer all the data from the expressway to the control room, the JetNet 5010G uses the last 2 of its SFP combo ports to extend high-speed data over gigabit copper. As the switches support MSR technology, they are able to connect together into a redundant ring to transfer data reliably. With the MSR any data or link failure can be recovered in less than 5ms, seamless restoration can be 0ms, with no topology change or system failure.
The supported management protocols of JetNet 5010G further enhanced the overall network performance: VLAN isolated data traffic for a clear image and secured streams from malicious actions, QoS prioritized data, IGMP snooping efficiently multicasted video and SNMP allowed managing the devices. For even a more enhanced network maintenance, users benefitted from the LLDP and Korenix ‘s intelligent Network Management platform – JetView Pro i2NMS system, which helped users automatically find devices, draw network topologies, and efficiently manage the networks and equipments which support SNMP function.
Last but not least, the Expressway network constructor has chosen to use Korenix products specifically for their hazardous environment certified design, with aluminum enclosure and excellent electromagnetic susceptibility which allowed resisting to vibration and shock, as well as for their wide operating temperature range for resisting high / low temperatures and humidity.
